cool it, dad

Watch out for the Lion!

boney_m

the influentious, hungry-for-fame, too-cool Boney M.
too cool. wayy too advanced in fashion sense. Love the courage, love the freestyle. Love the hair...Boney M opened up doors to disco nudity.

gotta love the gold crescent on hairy chest. Brilliant touch, that one.

this song makes me just wanna do the dance. *chop* *chop* *chop*

the man entry: the mantry

i feel like i owe it to the man.

i can relate more with mens' style maybe cuz of my natural inclination towards the androgyny. on one end you've got the laid-back, boyfriend, out-of-bed, raw, messy, effortless, rocker look. and on the other is the executive, clean, dapper and well-tailored/structured look that never fails to impress me.

whatever it is, men's fashion is often misunderstood as the simplest to pull off. to me, it just have to feel right, flow right. i'm intrigued when i see a guy who's got everything nicely put together. especially in malaysia. heheh.

so. first and foremost:
an homage to the "androgynous" man himself.
very sharp, till this very day.

so guys are often difficult to define a certain style but really easy to just mix and match. and any style can be timeless, if done right.

i picked him because of his fedoras.

monochromatic never looked so macho. he's a stallion.

there's something about flip guys that draws me in; either that or it's just this guy and his attitude. when i say attitude, it's just his scratched-out black nail polish. ooouuuh, oozes out sexiness.

i would date him.
jap guys and flip guys. while the previous oozes out sexiness, this guy caught my attention from his grandpa cardi. i dont know really, i think it's just his hair.

i picked him because of his cute puppy dog eyes.
that aside, i think it's the style this pic was taken and his non-attention to the camera that caught me.

3.1 Philip Lim spring 09 ready-to-wear collection
it's amazing how the attention is just brought to his shoes, even if u start from his clean face. everything compliments nicely, the creamy green shirt underneath to the cream blazer, with the little red brooch on his left collar, moving down to his carefull-tailored sleeves (very nice!) ... moving down to his rolled-up slacks... and alas, his snakeskin loafers. you can tell that this outfit is carefully thought-out.

earth tones always keep me grounded when it comes to colour schemes. it's almost the easiest to put together. why does he have his fist on his mouth? keeps me guessing. but truly stylish i'd say. plus points goes to the duffle bag.

this boy is just 15! too sharp for his age, i like.

bang!

im back with a bang

  • this (few) weeks in fashion:

everyone's surely heard about stam's fallout, or shall i say, fall from grace; on the prada ss09 show in paris. it wasnt just her who stole the show.. other models (Yulia the russian) fell too just as soon as she made her break at Jil Sander just before the prada catwalk. i guess the culprit, for once, is the shoe..not the model. these shoes are poorly built in all laws of Physics! and structure. here's a closer look.

  • speaking of ss09: what's up with the bare midriffs? i wont ever be able to pull that off, maybe in another lifetime, but not now definitely. tummy-exposure is never cool. except when you were small in a tiny bikini by the beach all innocent. and except when you're belly dancing. not for fashion, no.

  • ss09, again: balmain's show has my OH! and so does Valentino too. while the latter is more of a chic & formal wear, i'd take Balmain anytime, anyday. everyday. yaay.
left balmain, right valentino

  • enough of vintage this, vintage that!!
there's been a suffocating influx of local online boutiques shoving vintage clothing down our throats already. I'm always a big vintage fan forever, but personally, I'm getting turned off by the convenience of getting vintage through online boutiques. Now, I'm still guilty at buying them myself but i believe some has taken it a tad too far. What's the challenge in finding vintage, when it's so easy? What is vintage about it then? It should be a HUNT. one should feel so lucky as if she's just had quadruple orgasms and enjoying a tub of ice cream without getting any fatter (not necessarily at the same time). that should be the feeling. you can tell when some boutique owners do it for passion in a way that they actually pick the really vintage-worthy ones and sell them. in the whole concept of spreading the love. and that's fine. but some...is in just for the money. just because it's cheap because it's been worn before, and they get a huge profit cut out of it. so in that way, whatever's old is called vintage. what a shame.

  • so. am moving wayyyyy off that course, and embracing simple clean lines. In the spirit of spring09 readytowear. apparent in ysl, a.f vanderfrost, celine and the like.
left: celine, middle: a.f vanderfrost; right ysl.

  • a bit of vintage here, and there, off and on it's fine. but it get's REALLY old when you actually smell like a grandma, you know what im saying.

okay. so love her or hate her, in this particular outfit nina garcia (nina godzilla) looks pretty damn crisp. for those who know me, this outfit is so me. This is a lil example of  simple and clean, yet vintage

more examples of clean.

sometimes the weblog entry form is faulty so i couldnnt type in for the past couple of times.

i've been so occupied with work that i forgot it's the end of the month already! and my money is in already!

i saw the girls the other week (last Friday). catching up is so much fun, as cheesy as it sounds. i do miss Salmah's company though. I think I might have asked to buka puasa with her one too many times that it might pass off as irritating. I dont know. maybe it's just me being paranoid (as always). anyway, we caught over potylucked food- fiz's spagetti, fairuz's macaroni, my salad, sarah's kfc, and kuey teow goreng which her maid made (maid made hehe) and ayu's fruits, and muni's kek batik... it was good! sarah's always a superb host. and i got to play with Lola too which was another highlight...her kitty is just so adorable! and wayyyy too hyper. this raya, most, or probably half of them are going to beraya their husband's side. or prolly be occupied with their husband's side. and im like, man, is this what i'll be doing next year? not fretting, but.... i'm so gonna miss this! i'm so gonna miss being with my family for buka puasa... mom's whole-table full of food.. and i'm gonna miss buka puasa with friends. not that that's going to be over entirely, but you know, it will be different. and i dont think i could take on the chocolate cake job next year.. or maybe i could?

speaking of which, this year is the first year i "promoted around" my choc cake side business thing. so far it's been going great, just a lil tiring la. but that's expected..maybe i wont get to make that much money at all..we'll see.
anyway, if you all are wondering what exactly i do, well my family always bake the choc cake every year for Raya. now it's become more and more of my own thing since i've started to spread the news to my colleagues at work. so i'll be busy baking this weekend right till the morning of 1st raya.
